DURATION
3 years (the duration of MD & MS courses is 2 years for those with a 2 year recognized diploma in the same speciality). The duration of all PG diploma courses is 2 years.
ELIGIBILITY
CITIZENSHIP: Indian Nationals can apply under the General, MAHE or In-service category. Foreign nationals or Non Resident Indians or Indian nationals supported by NRI relatives can apply under the Foreign/NRI category.

QUALIFICATIONS: Pass in MBBS/BDS or equivalent degree recognized by Medical/Dental Council of India. Those applying under MAHE category must have studied and passed MBBS/BDS degree from Manipal University or sister institutions.

INTERNSHIP: Candidates completing their compulsory rotating internship on or before 30.04.09 are eligible.Candidates completing internship after 30.04.09 are not eligible for admission in this academic year.

REGISTRATION: Candidates should have obtained permanent registration with Medical/Dental Council of India or any of the State Medical Council or should obtain the same within one month from the date of admission.

ADMISSIONS
GENERAL/FOREIGN/NRI/IN-SERVICE CATEGORY: Admissions are made on the basis of rank obtained in an all India ONLINE Medical Postgraduate Entrance Test (MPET 09) for MD/MS/PG Diploma and ONLINE Dental Postgraduate Entrance Test (DPET 09) for MDS.

MAHE CATEGORY: Admissions are made on the basis of marks obtained in MPET 09 / DPET 09 and the marks obtained by the candidate in the theory papers of all subjects in the university examination.

Candidates can apply either under General/MAHE/In-service category or Foreign/NRI category. Those submitting applications under both General/MAHE/In-service and Foreign/NRI categories will be considered only under the General category. Change of category at a later stage will not be entertained under any circumstances.

FOREIGN/NRI CATEGORY

Foreign nationals or candidates holding foreign degrees must write to the Medical/Dental Council of India to obtain a temporary registration for the duration of the postgraduate training. Such candidates must be registered as Medical/Dental practitioners in the country from which they have obtained their basic Medical/Dental qualification. Also, their degrees must be recognized by the corresponding Medical/Dental Council or by any other equivalent authority.

MAHE CATEGORY

Upto 25% of total number of postgraduate degree and diploma seats are reserved for candidates who have studied and passed their MBBS/BDS from Manipal University or sister institutions, against a 3 years service agreement to serve Manipal University or sister institutions after completion of the course. The reservation is subject to a minimum of one seat in each postgraduate degree/diploma and a maximum not exceeding 25% of the total number of seats available in a particular subject. All fractional numbers are to be ignored in computing these seats. These candidates are also eligible for general category seats according to their general category ranks. These candidates will pay the same fees as applicable to the candidates under the general category.

Transferred candidates to Manipal University/sister institutions should have done not less than 60% of the entire course from the constituent institutions of Manipal University/sister institutions. Candidates who have taken transfer from Manipal University/sister institutions to other colleges after pre-clinical stage are not eligible under this category.

IN-SERVICE CATEGORY

Based on the requirements of the department/institution, a few seats are reserved under this category. Seat allocation in this category depends on the need for getting faculty in a particular specialization, which will be decided from time to time. Such candidates must be ready to give a service agreement to serve Manipal University or sister institutions for atleast 5 years after completion of the course.

To be eligible, the candidate must be a Manipal University graduate or graduated from any of the sister institutions under the Manipal group and working as tutor for atleast 1 year and/or the parent/spouse working in any of the Manipal University or sister institutions for atleast 5 years at the time of selection.

Candidates or the parent/spouse who are not working at the time of admission, as above will not be considered under this category. These candidates will pay the same fees as applicable to the candidates under the general category.

MPET 2009 / DPET 2009

TEST PATTERN: There will be one question paper of 200 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) of the objective type. The approximate distribution of questions is given below. The test will be of 2 hours duration and carries 600 marks. The question paper will be in English.

MPET: Medicine including Paediatrics, Genetics, Dermatology & Venereology etc. (40), Surgery including Orthopaedics, Trauma and Anaesthesiology (30), Obstetrics & Gynaecology (20), Community Medicine (20), Physiology (14), Pharmacology (14), Pathology (14), Anatomy (10), Otorhinolaryngology (10), Ophthalmology (10), Biochemistry (6), Microbiology (6), Forensic Medicine (6).


DPET: Pedodontics (16), Orthodontics (16), Periodontics (16), Oral Medicine & Radiology (16), Prosthodontics (16), Conservative Dentistry (16), Oral Surgery (16), Community Dentistry (16), Human Anatomy (8), Human Physiology including Biochemistry (8), Dental Materials (8), Pharmacology (8), General Pathology & Microbiology (8), Oral Anatomy (8), General Medicine (8), General Surgery (8), Oral Pathology (8).

SCHEDULE

The online test will be held between 02.02.09 and 11.02.09. The candidates can select the test schedule of their choice.

MERIT LIST


Based on the marks obtained in MPET/DPET 09, Manipal University will declare a list of candidates in the order of merit separately for Foreign/NRI and General category. Merit list will be displayed on 16.02.09 in the website.

MERIT LIST FOR MAHE CATEGORY

The merit list is prepared by taking 50% each of the marks scored in MPET/DPET 09 and total marks scored in all the university theory papers of MBBS/BDS. One percentage of marks will be deducted for each failure from the above total. Each failure in a particular subject will be counted as one; for example for a candidate failing in Anatomy and Physiology in a particular examination, the number of failures is counted as two. Non appearance in a particular subject of an examination for whatever reason is also counted as a failure.

Merit list for MAHE category candidates will be displayed on 16.02.09 in the website.

MAHE category candidates who do not submit attested copies of marks cards of all attempts for each semester/year and attempt certificate along with the FORM will not be considered under this category.
