A candidate possessing three years Diploma in Architecture (1 0+3) recognized by Central State
Govt., is also eligible for admission to first year of B. Arch. only, provided the candidate has passed the Diploma examination securing minimum 50% marks in aggregate. Such candidates will have to appear in the entrance examination for first year of B. Arch. papers (paper 2 & 6) mentioned above.
3. For admission to first year of MBA candidate must have passed three years degree course from any recognized University.
4. For admission to first year of MCA. candidate must have passed three years degree course from any recognized University with Mathematics at 10+2 level or at bachelor degree level.
5. For admission to second year (lateral entry) of B. Tech. the candidate must have passed three
years Diploma In Engineering course; securing minimum 60% marks In aggregate or three years B.SC. degree with mathematics as one subject: securing minimum 60% marks in aggregate as per details provided In the brochure.
6. For admission to second year (lateral entry) of B. Pharm. ,the candidate must have passed Diploma In Pharmacy course; securing minimum 60% marks In aggregate.
7. The candidates appearing in the qualifying examinations are also eligible to appear in State Entrance Examination 2009 subject to the condition that they must fulfil the eligibility criteria at the time of counselling.
6. The details of admissions for NRI and Kashmiri migrants will be published later, in the month of May, 2009 according to the norms to be laid down by the Govt. of U.P./AICTE.

All distance learning degrees awarded with recognition from Distance Education Council (DEC) are valid degrees for applying and obtaining central government jobs, the Indira Gandhi National Open University (Ignou) said here Tuesday.
'The government issued a notification in 1995 stating that all qualifications awarded through distance education by the universities stand automatically recognised for the purpose of employment to posts and services under the central government, provided it has been approved by the Distance Education Council,' Ignou Vice Chancellor V.N. Rajasekharran Pillai said.
Pillai's comment has come at a time when thousands of degree certificates awarded by the University of Madras and other Tamil Nadu varsities through the distance education programme for over a decade have been declared invalid for government jobs.
'Let me clarify that all universities need to get DEC approval before starting any distance education programme and awarding degrees. Without DEC approval, the degree has no value,' Pillai, who is also the chairman of DEC, told a News Agency.
Several vice chancellors of state open universities under the DEC Tuesday were in Delhi to deliberate on distance education system in the country.
Pillai said the DEC has decided not to insist on territorial jurisdiction to be followed by institutions or varsities in offering programmes through distance and online modes.
The Council of architecture (COA), through its academic unit- National Institute of Advanced Studies in architecture (NIASA) at Pune, has been conducting National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA). An online examination, for admission to 1st year of 5-year B.Arch. Degree Course at all COA approved architectural institutions in the country (including NITs, IITs, Government institutions, government aided Institutions, Universalities, Deemed universities and Private Universities established by a Central or State legislature and other private institutions) since academic session 2006-2007. for the current academic session i.e. 2008-09 also, nata is being conducted by COA. It shall be mandatory for every candidate seeking admission to 5-year B.Arch. Degree Course in any COA approved architectural institution in the country to obtain valid NATA score in addition to any other selection procedure whether based on common entrance examination or marks obtained in the qualifying examination. Such scores shall be valid for a period of two years throughout the Country for the purpose of admission to any architectural institution.
The evaluation through NATA is a mandatory requirement for candidates for eventual registration as an architect on successful completion of 5-year B.Arch. Degree course. It is hereby clarified that any aptitude test conducted by individual institution or by any agency or authority holding a common entrance examination where such common entrance examination is mandated shall no longer be valid for the purposes of admission to COA approved architectural institutions in such states.
The eligibility criteria for admission to 5-year B.Arch. Course and for appearing in the NATA shall be as follows:
10+2 or equivalent form a recognized Board/university with Mathematics as a subject of examination with at least 50% aggregate marks. OR
10+3 Diploma (any stream) recognized by Central/State Governments with 50% aggregate marks. OR
International baccalaureate Diploma, after 10 years of schooling, with not less than 50% marks in aggregate and with mathematics as compulsory subject of examination.

This Notification is being issued only for those eligible candidates (whose names are appeared in the Final Merit of MBA/MMS/ PGDBM/ PGDBA published on 25th June 2008 on http //www.dte orq.in/mba) to be admitted to seats available for respective CAP rounds of admission in First Year of Post Graduate Degree courses in MBA/MMS/ PGDBM/PGDBA in the institutes participating in the CAP for the academic year 2008-09.
The Candidates who are eligible (as per rule no. 2.1, 2.2 & 2.3 mentioned in the information brochure) for admission to First Year of Two Year Full Time Post Graduate Degree Courses in MBA/MMS/ PGDBM/PGDBA are required to submit the Online Option Form for various CAP rounds on website www.dte.org.in/mba through their login ID. Architecture is the art of constructing spaces that are physically emotionally pleasing to man. It includes the building of houses, multi storied high rise building,stadiums, roads ,bridges, parks ,dams etc. The architect must harmonies his acquired skills of the aesthetic and technological with the natural ambience.
Architecture involves a lot of hard work. In the initial stages of one's career, prospective architects work as assistants to established architects, with low salaries. Duties include researching zoning regulations, working with subcontractors (electricians, plumbers, etc.), and drafting plans, either manually or with computer assistance. Long hours and little responsibility characterize these first few years. Over a period of time as junior architects gain some experience, they start designing parts of a building. At this stage they keep in constant touch with the contractor and ensure that the construction conforms to the plans. It is not until a decade or so that most architects get actual opportunities to design and plan buildings as the lead architect.
Educational Qualifications
There are three types of professional degrees in architecture offered through colleges and universities:
A)Bachelor in Architecture is a 5 year course after +2.
There are about a number of national institutions that offer architectural training at the under-graduate level. Those candidates who have studied Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics can apply for admission. A minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (+2) is required, with the main subjects being English and Mathematics. An entrance examination will be given to test the candidates on their comprehension, sketching abilities and IQ. The top institutions in Ahmedabad and Delhi give about 30% weightage to class 12 results and the rest to the entrance exam. The course can be taken full-time or part-time, the former being divided into 10 semesters (16 weeks each) that also includes 6 months of practical training.
The basic subjects taught are Humanities, Arts and Crafts, Design, Engineering and Technology. The studies mainly focus on : developing awareness of the technical, cultural and environmental factors that determine the limits of any architectural problem understanding the institutional forces which will define the ground on which decisions will be framed balancing the aesthetic, scientific and technical requirements During the final year, students need to undergo practical apprenticeship with a selected Architectural firm. This training helps them to practice and learn all the various aspects of architectural designing, under the guidance of experienced professionals.
B)2-year Master of Architecture programs for students with a preprofessional undergraduate degree in architecture or a related area.
C)3 or 4-year Master of Architecture programs offered to students with degrees in other disciplines.
The Post-graduate awards offered are the Masters degree (M.Arch.), the PG diploma and the Ph.D.

The general opinion is that Ahmedabad focuses more on design and creates good academicians Delhi is good for those interested in practical training since Delhi's architectural activity is high. Mumbai tends to produce sleek interiors' women and men. Roorkee produces students who technically, know their stuff .
With the above degrees that have been approved by the All India Council for Technical Education, candidates and professionals who are registered members of the Indian Institute of Architects can request entitlement of practice from the Council of Architects.
Other Requirements for Architects: In the US those who want to provide architectural services must be licensed. To become licenced one must earn a professional degree in architecture, complete a period of practical training or internship, and pass all divisions of the ARE (Architect Registration Examination).
Generally, the professional degree in architecture must be from a school of architecture accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB). Individual states may not have this requirement.
Job Outlook for Architects
Employment of architects is projected to grow about as fast as the average for all occupations through 2014. Prospective architects may face competition for entry-level positions. To increase one's chances of getting an internship after graduation, prospective architects should gain career-related experience in an architectural firm while still in school. Those who know CADD technology will also have an advantage.
Earnings of Architects
Median annual earnings of wage and salary architects were $60,300 in 2004. Recent graduates working on internships will earn much less. Those starting out in private practices will go through a period of time when they are operating at a loss.*

A Day in an Architect's Life
On a typical day an architect will:
Discuss the objectives, requirements, and budget of a project;
Provide various predesign services which may include conducting feasibility and environmental impact studies, selecting a site, or specifying the requirements the design must meet;
Prepare drawings and present ideas for the client to review;
Develop final construction plans that show the building’s appearance as well as details for its construction;
Follow building codes, zoning laws, fire regulations, and other ordinances;
Make necessary changes throughout the planning process.
Advancement of Architects
A licensed architect, after gaining experience, may take on increasingly responsible duties and eventual managing entire projects. Architects may advance to supervisory or managerial positions in large firms. Some become partners in established firms while others set up their own practices.
Procedure Related to Admission
Stage VII CAP Round 1 Provisional Allotment and Reporting to the allotted institute.
- The CAP Round 1 Provisional allotment shall be displayed on internet and no separate communication/allotment letter shall be issued to the candidate. The candidate has to report to the allotted institutes as per given schedule.
- After the first round of admission is over, student eligible for CAP Round 2 should submit the on-line option form and should get the same confirmed at any ARC. On basis of these options, candidates will be allotted seat for admission in CAP round 2.
- The CAP Round 2 Provisional allotment shall be displayed on internet and no separate communication/allotment letter shall be issued to the candidate. The candidate has to report to the allotted institutes as per given schedule.
- The admission will be done as per inter-se-merit as per schedule.
- Application Processing Fee for J & K Migrant candidate is Rs. 700/-.
- The candidate should collect the application form from the Office of Director, Art or get is downloaded from internet. The application received in time shall be scrutinized and the eligible candidates shall be allowed to appear for the Special Common Aptitude Test 2008 (S-CAT 08). The result shall be displayed and the admission against the seats for J & K Migrant, PIO, Foreign National and Foreign Students shall be filled on the basis of the merit of S-CAT 08.
