Apollo Hospitals ties up with IGNOU for skill training courses

Over 45 courses will be offered for healthcare workers at all levels

The Apollo Hospitals group entered into an agreement with Indira Gandhi National Open University to offer skill training courses for healthcare workers at all levels, on the occasion of its 25th anniversary celebrations.

Over 45 courses will be offered, across all verticals, addressing specific skills such as technicians, medical assistantship, health management and dialysis, representatives of Apollo Hospitals told presspersons on Thursday.

The courses will be provided across the online platform, onsite and distance education mode. The first course is expected to start in January and fee details are being worked out.

There is a huge shortfall of trained healthcare professionals in the country, Prathap C.Reddy, Chairman, Apollo Hospitals, said. “We need to double our doctors and nurses, and as far as paramedics go, the number has to increase at least 10 times more,” he added. The vast manpower resources that India possessed would have to be converted into valuable healthcare resources and the MoU with IGNOU was a step in that direction.

Apollo, which runs several training institutes for specialists, nurses and paramedics, will be involved in training in a big way in the future, he said, charting out the plans of the group for the next 25 years. Healthcare would become the largest employer, providing jobs not only in the country, but also globally.

V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice-Chancellor, IGNOU, said Apollo was a success story in the corporate healthcare scenario, democratising healthcare by using technology in a big way to take the most advanced techniques to the people.

He said IGNOU was also a success story in the democratisation of education, riding the technology wave to provide access to all.

Preetha Reddy, Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals group, traced the evolution of the hospital from its founding day 25 years ago to its status as the largest private hospital chain in Asia.

The group’s executive director - financial, Suneeta Reddy, explained the business model and indicated the enormous potential of the Indian healthcare industry.

Shobana Kamineni, executive director, detailed the new ventures of Apollo Hospitals, including Reach Hospitals, which aims at taking super-specialty care to rural areas.

Sangita Reddy, executive director, said 3 Bs – biology, byte and bandwidth will change the way healthcare operates, while providing a perspective on Apollo Health Street, a provider of revenue cycle management solutions to the healthcare industry.

PATTERN OF IITJEE-2008

Question Papers

There will be two question papers, each of three hours duration. Both the question papers would consist of three separate sections on Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Questions in these papers will be of objective type, which are to be answered on a specially designed machine-gradable sheet (ORS – Optical Response Sheet) using HB pencils only. Incorrect answers will be awarded negative marks.

Language and Font of Question Papers

Candidates can opt for Question Papers either in English or in Hindi. This option should be exercised while filling the application form, and it cannot be changed at any later stage.

Visually impaired candidates will be provided with question papers with 20% enlarged font. However, to avail this facility, candidates should make a request along with the application form.

Calculators and Log Tables

Use of calculators and log tables is NOT permitted in JEE-2008.

Aptitude Test for B.Arch. and B.Des.

Candidates called for counselling and desirous of joining the B.Arch. and B.Des. courses will be required to qualify in an Aptitude Test to be conducted at each counselling institute on June 21, 2008. The test will consist of two papers, each of two hours duration – from 10.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon, and from 2.00 pm to 4:00 pm. Candidates who fail to qualify in the Aptitude Test will not be eligible for admission to either B.Arch. or B.Des. courses. Question papers for aptitude test for B.Arch and B.Des will be in English only.

Ranking

Only those candidates who attempt both Paper 1 and Paper 2 will be considered for the ranking. Marks in Physics will be equal to marks in Physics section of Paper 1 + marks in Physics section of Paper 2. Similar procedure will be followed for Chemistry and Mathematics. Based on the cut-off marks in the individual subjects as well as the aggregate marks in the Examination, a common merit list will be prepared without any relaxed criteria. In addition, separate merit lists of candidates belonging to the SC, ST, and PD categories will be prepared with different relaxed norms relevant to their categories. While preparing these merit lists, if a candidate belongs to more than one category of relaxed norms, then he/she for the purpose of ranking shall be considered in all the categories in which he/she qualifies. There will be no separate list of wait-listed candidates.

Eligibility Conditions in IIT JEE 2008

A candidate has to satisfy all the eligibility conditions given below :

* A candidate can attempt JEE only twice, in consecutive years.
* Candidates appearing for JEE-2008 should have either passed in 2007 or should be appearing in 2008 in the qualifying examination listed in section 7.1 and should satisfy the eligibility criteria listed in section 7.2.
* Candidates should meet the age requirements given in section 7.4.
* Candidates should not have accepted admission by paying full fees at any of the IITs, IT-BHU, Varanasi and ISMU, Dhanbad, through earlier JEE.

THE APPLICATION PROCESS
Application forms can be accessed on-line from the Christian Medical College website http://home.cmcvellore.ac.in/admissions and submitted with a basic administrative fee of Rs.300/-. Application forms are also available by post from the Office of the Registrar on payment of Rs.300/-. To get this form, pay as indicated below and send the DD, the original Challan or receipt to: Office of the Registrar, CMC, Thorapadi PO, Vellore 632002. State your full postal address with Pin-code. Please also mention your telephone number and email address if available. No additional money, stamps or envelopes are required.

Candidates applying from abroad (other than SAARC countries) should send a Demand Draft for Fifty US
Dollars or its equivalent.

Applications are also available at the following post offices in Vellore: Bagayam , Vellore HO and CMC Town
Campus Payment can be made using any of the following methods:

(1) As a challan at no extra cost at any branch of ICICI bank in India. Please mention FC-CMC-V on the
challan. (Send original challan)

2. If successful, the application number will appear on the screen with the instructions to print the form.
3. Take a printout of the form by clicking on the PRINT option.
4. Check if all details are correct. Paste a recent photograph (passport size) and sign the form in the space

5. Make your PAYMENT by any one of the methods mentioned above (Rs.500 per course plus Rs.300 basic
application fee).
6. Send in the signed form with the proof of payment and all the other required ENCLOSURES to the Office of
the Registrar, CMC, Vellore 632002 to reach on or before the last date.
7. An acknowledgement with a registration number will be mailed to you.

A registration fee of Rs.500/- per course to be paid by any one of the methods listed on page 3. This amount is

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION:
MD / MS / Diplomas
Candidates who have qualified for the M.B.B.S Degree of the Madras University or any other University recognised as equivalent by the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University and the Indian Medical Council and have completed their compulsory rotating residential internship and obtained full registration before 15/05/2009 are eligible to apply for the postgraduate diploma and degree courses.

Candidates who have qualified for a postgraduate diploma may also apply for the postgraduate degree (MS/MD) course in the same subject. Post Diploma candidates with a diploma in the same subject need to undergo 2 years of training for the degree. Note: Those who complete a DCP will not have this benefit for MD Pathology.
Candidates currently pursuing a postgraduate training programme and who complete the same by the 15th of May 2009 will be eligible to apply.

Residency in Medical Physics
MSc degree in Medical Physics or a Post-graduate diploma in Hospital Physics (Dip R.P) from BARC, Mumbai.

THE SELECTION PROCESS
The selection of candidates for postgraduate courses will be according to the directives of the CMC
Vellore Council. Fifty percent of seats in each course are reserved for sponsored candidates, provided they
fulfill other criteria for eligibility for admission. However, more than 50% of the available seats may be allotted
to sponsored candidate based on their ranking in the selection test. The wait list is based on ranking in the
selection tests. The first sponsored candidate on the waiting list will ordinarily fill vacancies arising by
sponsored candidates not accepting a seat to make up 50% reservation for sponsored candidates. In the event
that more than 50% of the seats in any course are filled by sponsored candidates and one of the sponsored
candidates does not accept the seat, it will be offered to the next candidate on the wait list by rank irrespective
of whether he or she is sponsored or open. No admissions will be made after 25th May 2009.

Following categories of candidates are eligible to appear in GATE:

1. Bachelor's degree holders in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/Pharmacy (4 years after 10+2) and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes.
2. Master's degree holders in any branch of Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes.
3. Candidates in the second or higher year of the Four-year Integrated Master's degree programme (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering/Technology or in the third or higher year of Five-year Integrated Master's degree programme and Dual Degree programme in Engineering/Technology.
4. Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE (e.g. AMIE by IE(I), AME by ICE(I)) as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech. Those who have completed section A or equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible.
