The examination will consist of two papers.

Paper II One subject to be selected from the list of optional subjects set out in Para 2 below	300 marks

Note (i) Both the question papers will be of the objective type (multiple choice questions).

(ii) The question papers will be set both in Hindi and English.

(iii) The course content of the syllabi for the optional subjects will be of the degree level. Details of the syllabi are indicated in Part A of Section III.

(iv) Each paper will be of two hours duration. Blind candidates will, however, be allowed an extra time of twenty minutes at each paper.

UPSC 2009 Civil Services Examination

The competitive examination comprises two successive stages :

(i) Civil Services (Preliminary) Examinations (Objective Type) for the selection of candidates for Main Examination; and

(ii) Civil Services (Main) Examination (Written and Interview) for the selection of candidates for the various services and posts.

2. The Preliminary Examination will consist of two papers of Objective type (multiple choice questions) and carry a maximum of 450 marks in the subjects set out in subsection (A) of Section II. This examination is meant to serve as a screening test only; the marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination by the candidates who are declared qualified for admission to the Main Examination will not be counted for determining their final order of merit. The number of candidates to be admitted to the Main Examination will be about twelve to thirteen times the total approximate number of vacancies to be filled in the year in the various Services and Posts. Only those candidates who are declared by the Commission to have qualified in the Preliminary Examination in a year will be eligibe for admission to the Main Examination of that year provided they are otherwise eligible for admission to the Main Examination.

3. The Main Examination will consist of a written examination and an interview test. The written examination will consist of 9 papers of conventional essay type in the subjects set out in sub-section (B) of Section II. Also see Note (ii) under para I of Section II (B).

4. Candidates who obtain such minimum qualifying marks in the written part of the Main Examination as may be fixed by the Commission at their discretion, shall be summoned by them for an interview for a Personality Test vide sub-section ‘C’ of Section II. However, the papers on Indian Languages and English will be of qualifying nature. Also see Note (ii) under para 1 of Section II (B). The marks obtained in these papers will not be counted for ranking. The number of candidates to be summoned for interview will be about twice the number of vacancies to be filled. The interview will carry 300 marks (with no minimum qualifying marks).

Marks thus obtained by the candidates in the Main Examination (written part as well as interview) would determine their final ranking. Candidates will be allotted to the various Services keeping in view their ranks in the examination and the preferences expressed by them for the various Services and posts.

NDA I 2008 Final Results

National Defence Academy (NDA) I 2008 final results declared by UPSC

On the basis of the results of the Written Examination held by the Union Public Service Commission in April, 2008 and the interviews held by the Services Selection Board of the Ministry of Defence, 456 candidates have qualified for admission to the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of National Defence Academy for the 121st Course and Naval Academy 10+2 (Executive Branch) for the 41st Course commencing from 30th December, 2008.

There are some common candidates in the three lists for Army, Navy, Air Force and Naval Academy. The total number of such candidates in the three lists is 183. The number of vacancies as intirnated by the Government is 335 (195 for Army, 39 for Navy, 66 for Air Force and 35 for Naval Academy 10+2 (Executive Branch).

The results of Medical Examination have not been taken into account in preparing these lists. The result of Roll No. 041824, 115290 and 171429 have been withheld.

The candidature of all the candidates is provisional, subject to their submitting the requisite certificates in support of date of birth and educational qualifications etc. claimed by them, directly to the Additional Directorate General of Recruiting, Adjutant Generals branch, Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Army), West Block No.III, Wing–I, R.K.Puram, New Delhi-110066 wherever this has not already been done and NOT to UPSC.

Tamilnadu Law College Admission through CET - Madras High Court

Admission of students to the law colleges in Tamil Nadu is to be regulated by holding a competitive common entrance Test (CET), the Madras High Court said on Monday.

Framing a set of measures to restore the glory of the institution and to improve the legal education , the First Bench comprising Chief Justice A K Ganguly and Justice F M Ibrahim Kalifulla observed that the measures should be strictly implemented in the interest of the students, their parents and the public at large.

The Bench said that admission of students was to be reorganised and if necessary one more law college within the city might be opened. The heritage building of the law college should be renovated and restored to its original stature.

The Bench further said the sanctioned strength of the teaching faculty should be increased. The salary of part-time lectures to be increased from Rs 5,500 to not less than Rs 10,000 per month. The remuneration of guest lecturer/advocate to be increased from Rs 100 per hour with a maximum of Rs 4,000 per month to not less that Rs 500 per hour to a maximum of Rs10000 per month.

Change in Medical Entrance Exam Pattern

The two part CET for Medical Entrance from the next academic year will have multiple choice objective questions only. The preliminary exam will have 200 questions and each question will carry 4 marks for a right answer and 1 negative mark for a wrong answer and the duration is 3 hours.

The main exam which so far had non-objective questions has been changed to objective type. This exam will have a duration of 3 hrs of 120 questions and carry same marks of preliminary.

The Supreme Court has approved the change in pattern of the CET.

The pattern has been changed because the existing pattern is a long process and causing tremendous stress for students.

The eligibility conditions for CET remains the same.
