The Government has proposed to set up 20 new Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) in the country during the 11th Five Year Plan.
As advised by the Planning Commission, a Task Force has been constituted to deliberate on the setting up of new IIITs in a Public-Private Partnership mode. The Task Force is yet to submit its Report.
Details regarding places, time schedule, location etc. will be finalized after getting "in principle" approval of the Planning Commission.
At present, there are four IIITs set up by the Government of India and operating in the Country. These institutes are: - Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad; Atal Bihari Vajpayee-Indian Institute of Information Technology & Management, Gwalior; Pandit Dwarka Prasad Mishra Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design & Manufacturing, Jabalpur and Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design & Manufacturing, Kancheepuram, An extension Centre of IIIT Allahabad has also been set up at Amethi
